Do we have to attend championships?
No, championships are optional but they are fun! It’s also a great chance to see all the kids in the entire league competing together. All five teams in our league compete at the same time for championships – it’s a much larger meet than any of the others all season.
The last day of practice for those not attending championships is Friday, July 14.
South Connection families: please notify South Connection if your child will participate in championships to ensure they get a ride to practice.
We will hold our end of season picnic and awards ceremony on Saturday, July 22 at Shafor park at 3:00 p.m. It is not necessary to participate in championships to attend. Watch your email for more information – we hope to see you there!
What are the dates and times?
There will be two sessions, based on age:
- ages 5 - 10 on Tuesday, July 18 at Greene Valley
- 11 and overs on Thursday, July 20 at Forest Ridge
update:Please note that these locations are a change from past years. Maps and directions are available on our Maps & Directions page.
How do I sign up?
Sign ups for the meets are posted on our Swimtopia site just like regular meets. The sign up deadline has been extended to Wednesday, July 12 at noon. We absolutely cannot accept late entries for championships.
There is also a $28.00 fee per swimmer to participate in championships (see the link at the top of our homepage to pay this fee), and your swimmer must have participated in a minimum of two (2) regular season meets (not counting the Fun Meet).
Does my swimmer need a qualifying time?
No, there are no qualifying times to participate in championships. However, swimmers must participate in at least two (2) regular season meets (home or away) to be eligible for championships (not including the Fun Meet).
Do we have to volunteer at championships?
Yes. All five teams share the jobs for championship meets. Our team is the largest in the league, so we have proportionally more jobs to fill.
As always if you have a swimmer in the meet you are required to sign up to volunteer – the meet cannot run the meet without all jobs filled.
We will post links to sign up to volunteer later in the season.
Please note that championship volunteer jobs do not switch at the halfway point – they last the entire session.
Is there a fee for championships?
Yes, there is a $28 fee per swimmer to participate. This covers entry fees, league rental of an electronic timing system, and our team's portion of other league expenses. A payment link is on our homepage.
How does practice work during championship week?
Practice for champs swimmers starts Monday, July 17 and we’ll have popsicle treats after practice for each group of swimmers. Please note that we are only able to provide these treats for the swimmers. Thanks for understanding.
- Practice for ages 9-10 and ages 5 - 8 will be July 17 and 18 at their usual times - last day of practice is July 18
- Practice for ages 11-12 and ages 13 and overs will be July 17 through 20 at their usual times - last day of practice is July 20
- There is no practice for any group on Friday, July 21
What else do I need to know?
- Championship apparel ordering has closed. Orders will be passed out at championships.
- Heat sheets will not be available prior to the meet. They will be for sale at the meet - cash only.
- A full concessions area will be available at the pool.
Will there be an end of season picnic this year?
Yes! We will hold our end of season picnic and awards ceremony on Saturday, July 22 at Shafor park at 3:00. It is not necessary to participate in championships to attend.
All swim team families are invited to bring chairs/blankets and a dish to share (chicken is provided by the team). Families with last names starting with A-M please bring a side dish to share, and N-Z please bring a sweet treat or fruit. We'll eat on the grass by the shelter then gather for an awards ceremony to celebrate our swimmers and another great season. Watch your email for more information – we hope to see you there!
